Re: ATC training

That is a question I have also pondered. Unfortunately the FAA's website is not terribly clear on the subject.

Re: New Active Sky release

I have done a few non-SimAirline flights with ASE, and visually speaking there isn't much difference. I wasn't really expecting to see much of a difference either, since most of what was described on HiFi's site dealt with the inner workings of the software. The options that can be adjusted are much...

Re: Last flights for simairline

We actually have almost two months exactly left to file flights. To be honest, I haven't given much thought to what my last official SimAirline flight will be.

New Active Sky release

For those of you who use Active Sky, HiFiSim has released a new version of their AS product line called Active Sky Evolution (ASE). Like Active Sky Advanced (ASA), it will work with both FS9 and FSX, and they are actually offering it as a free upgrade to ASA for a limited time. I just upgraded and s...

If you don't mind, could you please provide the specific step-by-step process you followed to get it to work? That will make it easier for others who may experience the same problem to get it resolved.

Incredible Lufthansa sale

Lufthansa is offering what is probably one of the best sales you will ever see to encourage passengers to come back after last week's pilot strike.

Re: 757-300 Continental for FSX

Pretty much any FS9 aircraft can be tweaked to work in FSX. I have been using POSKY aircraft in FSX for a while, and they work fine. They have even added FSX usability into some of their models (their 747 and 777 models in particular seem to have some features that only work in FSX, though I don't u...

Severe Weather Alert System

I just came across a neat little tool using Twitter. SWAS (Severe Weather Alert System) lets you select your home town (US only), or a nearby town, and if you have a Twitter account you can follow the account for that town to get rapid severe weather alerts. The service also appears to provide weath...

I wasn't planning on putting anything about it in my blog, but after reading an article The Christian Science Monitor posted about the story, I had to say something.

Thanks, Pierre. That may have been what it was. I may need to change that key command so I don't accidentally hit it again.

Re: The Buzz

Actually, Twitter can be a very handy marketing tool, if handled properly. The other day I saw the person who runs Southwest's official Twitter account respond to two upset passengers within minutes of them tweeting their complaints. I have also heard stories of Virgin America doing the same thing, ...

Currently in Perth, Australia, after Virgin Blue flight 549. I have been exploring Down Under for the past few days. I think this is the longest I have ever spent in the virtual Outback. :)

A possible photoshop competitor?

I saw this video today, and found it rather interesting. Perhaps I will start using Aviary to work on my screenshots, and any other graphical needs I may have.

FSX pointer malfunction

For those of you using FSX, has anyone else had the pointer change from the standard arrow/hand to a large Plus sign (+) and not allow you to click any controls? This happened to me shortly after takeoff this morning, and I had to shut down FSX and restart it. Everything's working fine now. However,...

The Buzz

Well, it's been out for a day. What are everyone's thoughts about Google Buzz? I agree with some experts who say it will become incredibly annoying, but I also agree with others who say it will be the death of Facebook. I only took my first look at it today, and so far I am somewhat pleased with it....

Re: 2008 BA Boeing 777 Heathrow crash: Air traffic control

It can certainly be done, and I would hope that the pilots would be up to the task of flying a visual approach in a big bird. Some of the latest aircraft avionics setups can actually create a simulated precision approach using inputs from various instruments to provide cues to the pilot flying the a...

Re: First HA A332

About three or four years after a fleet change, you just get used to seeing a certain type of aircraft in an airline's colors. The first 747s and DC-9s repainted in Delta colors have been around for a little while, but I still do a double-take whenever I see one.
