Is it possible when each schedule is updated, to incorporate the 4 letter airport designator for the departure & arrival airports? When looking up or searching for scenery or charts, it seems to be easier using the 4 letter designator than the 3 letter.

Thanks!

Rick

Unfortuanetly no. Some Downloadable ones use both but only a few. If you are having issues figuring them out go to the website named AirNav.com and then type your 4 letter and it will come back with all the airport info aswell as the 3 letter code. Hope that helps.

Rick,

To clarify, are you referring to our HTML timetables?

I've moved your topic to Suggestions.

Aaron, sorry, could have been clearer, but yes the HTML schedules and the discontinued flight schedules. To me it seems easier to decipher the airport with the 4 letter code........Region, Country, and it seems the last 2 letters seem to match the airport closer.

ex. SBBR....South America, Brazil, Brasilla
EGLH....Europe, Great Britain, London Heathrow, etc

Just a thought, don't want to make more work for anyone, though!

EGLL, actually. But to answer your question, it will be added in a new version of the timetables that will replace our existing (months away, but it's listed in the 2008 Development Program).

The next poll for the website actually deals with this--it'll ask about people's familiarity with each system of airport codes. (I suspect familiarity depends on a person's location--IATA for those in North America, ICAO for those in the rest of the world.)

Yeah, because of course the ICAO code for all the small, medium and large US airports is simply IATA with a leading K.

The advantage of having ICAO on the site, is that people can type it into FS without have to do any deciphering.
The problem with the current system is that the city and airport names in FS often differ (sometimes greatly) from the destination name that Aaron uses in the HTML schedules.

MARK THIS DOWN! I actually *gasp* AGREE with Sam!

When making flightplans for Kona Air Shuttle (now making all of Primaris since the Kona Air Shuttle is nothing more than scheduled legs), Kona threw me off. I thought you just slap on a P and call it a day. Nope, it's PHKO. Kind of like the rest of the world (for example, RKSI=Republic of Korea, South - Incheon). Countries like Canada and mainland US are special :D
