About the Q400, correct me if I'm wrong, but Hawaiian island hopping is one of the worst things for any airplane (salt causes corrosion of the frame, the constant cycles, the list goes on and on). The blades of the Q400 given enough time would become significantly weak if not replaced (give or take a few years), therefore making the cost of maintenance exponentially high. I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure that if this wasn't the case they would have tons of them plus a few ATRs at this point.

Plus the CRJs capacity doesn't match that of a 717. I'm just saying that since they have ordered A330s and A350s, I wouldn't be surprised to see them replace their 717s with A318/A319s.

Hm...not so sure about that either. How do you explain American Eagle's Caribbean operations? Those ATRs have been at it a long time.

Also with the Q400 it hates rain as I know from working with it everyday. That island sunshine would be the best place for it.

They couldn't afford the MTX on the plane probably. The thing honestly breaks alot and should never lead a whole fleet.

Not bad, but not spectacular.

The A318/A319 are terrible replacements for the 717/M80/DC9 on short routes because of the large increase in empty weight to carry the same amount of passengers, that makes them very expensive on short routes. This is one reason the DC9 has stuck around this long, it's very good at what it does, same goes for the 717 and I expect to see those around for a LONG time.
