Re: Polish President Killed In Plane Crash
Wow...I woke up and my TV channel was on BBC World news. That was the first headline that came. At first I thought it was an IL-62. Thanks for clearing it up.

Re: Polish President Killed In Plane Crash
On a side note, I've noticed some people giving negative publicity to the plane, where many wonder why the Polish Air Force didn't buy newer aircraft for their heads of state/government. I have this to say:
1. When landing on hazardous conditions and going against tower directions, I find that a plane has the same probability of crashing regardless of being a Soviet or Western aircraft, new or old. The degree of destruction might be different, but if a plane goes through trees and falls to the ground it will blow up whether it's a Boeing, Airbus, Tupolev, etc.
2. I find it disappointing that the media are now criticizing the TU-154. OK, it does have a record for many incidents, but when pilot error is the cause of the crash, why blame something that didn't have to do with the crash? Looks like there are still some anti-Soviet feelings nowadays. In comparison, the 727 has more incidents and no one seems to blame the condition or age of the aircraft when it's involved.
I don't know...just my two cents.
Of course, I sympathize with the Poles for the loss of their leader.

Dennis, regarding to the age of their Aircraft, the Polish Government was looking into to replace the two Tupolev's with Airbus or Boeings. But the money needed for that wasn't there.

Whether they wanted to replace the plane or not, that's not my point. It's how the blame is being put on the age and manufacturer of the aircraft.

Dennis, last night on ABC World News, they're looking into Pilot error for the crash. They're saying he (or she) was under pressure to land at THAT airport, no ifs, ands, or buts, and the pressure was coming from the Prez himself. Also, there was some question bout the aircraft....she was flown to Tokyo under pressure by the Prez against the Pilots recommendation.Dennis wrote:Whether they wanted to replace the plane or not, that's not my point. If they plan to be as through as the US when investigating crashes, the truth will come out. At least I hope

Much thanks to Fraser J. for making a great banner!!
