Which 757?

Post by sanins192 » 11 Jan 2010, 00:52

I've been holding out for the Qualitywings 757 for a while now, hoping that it would have the best model and best flight dynamics out of all the 757 offerings. Having read varying reviews, it seems that the functionality isn't as good as I had expected. My question is what is the best combo of packages? ie Captainsim for the model, PSS for the panel and flight dynamics etc.

PSS merged with POSKY or PSS merged w/ the Qualitywings model are the two ways to go. However, my recommendation is to save yourself 40 USD and go with the first option.

OK, thanks. What is the Captainsim Block F like, with the new flight dynamics etc.? I thought that the Captainsim model was leading the way, but with the release of Qualitywings has the CS model (and general package) become obsolete?

You can buy it in a package called '757 Professional': http://www.justflight.com/product.asp?pid=174

The same applies to the 777.

If you buy the Justflight 757 (Captainsim one), you get all the blocks plus the cargo model.

Typically, they released it just a matter of days after I'd forked out separate payments for the different models, from the Captainsim site.

P.S. Has anyone merged the qualitywings 757 with the PSS anel? This I'd be very interested in, as the only thing that has held me back from buying the QW 757 is the 'Lite' aspect of the systems simulation.

Should be possible to merge the PSS/QW, though I thought the QW panel was supposed to be pretty good.
I currently use POSKY/PSS and that's been fantastic.

Carlo, are you suggesting that the Captainsim 757 is worth getting, or is a PSS / Qualitywings merge better?

I'm not Carlo but I bought all the CS 757 'blocks' when it originally came out and both the panel/fde were disgusting, the model was great but FPS were painful when merged with PSS, so I ditched it all for POSKY/PSS.

Anyone have the QW to comment on it's panel?

OK, thanks for the input guys. It looks like the PSS panel / flight dynamics are the best at the moment, and then I will have to see how the POSKY model compares with the Captainsim model and the QW model (I think I still have the freeware BETA model on my hard drive, so I might look around for that). Did you two purchase the Captainsim with the Block F? I've heard that it is a great improvement over the standard FDE and panel, although the functionality still lets it down.

I've heard that the QW panel look quite nice but the functionality is comprable with CLS style 'lite' products, and it has lots of flaws with it.

Whatever happened to the Level-D 757 which was meant to be in development?

Nope, still very much in development and is supposed to be released June 2010.

Unfortunately, it is FSX only. :(

Ah, right. Is there any talk of them releasing a later version for FS9 or is simply an FSX release only?

From what I've heard and read on their forums, the QW 757's VC and exterior model is very good. The panel itself is fine but there have been a number of reported bugs with various systems and some features aren't very complex (although they did warn about this). They are currently working on a service pack, though.

The general consensus on the QW 757 is that it's a good addon, if you want to be in the air quickly, with a nice model and VC to look at, and good FPS, however the systems simulation isn't as complex as on the PSS.

As for the POSky model, I have to say that I much prefer Captainsim's, but the QW one looks even better. As long as such features as wing flex, properly hanging landing gear, etc are modelled, then I'd be happy with it. The PSS 2D panel is one of the best panels I've ever used though.

For the CS Block F upgrade, well I think they stopped selling it separately a while ago, as it's included with the 757 'Pro' packaged you can buy from CaptainSim, which is what I got (during one of their 'everything at 9.99' sales)

Btw, don't judge the QW 757 using the Beta, which was released years ago and bears no resemblance to the finished products, in terms of FDE and even looks, I believe.

Thanks for the recommendations. From what I can remember the BETA was pretty good, so if the new model is even better I may need to just buy it. I think I will get the PSS for the panel / flight dynamics, then it's just a matter of whether I want to spend more money and get the QW for its model or stay with the POSKY / PSS merge for the time being.
