A look at what's to come from PMDG.

I'm guessing the 748 is only for FS9. Although if it is just a new model and the same systems, I can't see how it would be that hard to make it for FS9 as well. I'm most looking forward to that 777...

Sorry guys, with the exception of the 737 NGX (possibly), everything on that page is for FSX. It really sucks how most developers are playing the FSX only game...

No 777 for FS9 (although nothing has been said on the subject) and the NGX is also a question mark ! :(

That's total bogus but I suppose there's nothing we can do about it.

They've lost this customer, for sure :(

I don't understand how, financially, it makes any sense whatsoever to ignore FS9 users, when they probably account for over 50% of simmers.

They're basically not interested in upping their potential profits by 50%+

I guess they're figuring at this point, business is tough and not too many people will buy the product in the first place. So while business is down, maybe they're trying to push the payware and add-on users towards switching to FSX to make things easier for themselves. I dunno...just an idea. Probably not true, they're probably just lazy.

Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner!

I'm extremely frustrated, the 777 is by far my favorite plane, and I've been wanting PMDG to come out with one. Finally, they have, but only for FSX :rmad:

FSX provides a few more options for model designers, as well as an easier interface than FS9 did. Plus FSX has stabilized now, for the most part, and simmers are gradually switching over as they upgrade their computers. PMDG may be making the move to FSX-only a little soon, but it's actually a smart move to place themselves ahead of the curve.

I think most of the people who run FS9 either do so because the performance of FSX is poor on their computer, or like me, they have too many addons for FS9 and prefer the performance of FS9. I don't ever think FS9 users will switch to FSX, unless the next round of video cards can run FSX at a constant 60FPS. To say that the FSX / FS9 split is probably around the 50% mark (give or take 10%), I think PMDG are hoping that new flight sim enthusiasts will choose FSX as their sim of choice. Whereas the number of FS9 users will stay approximately the same, the number of FSX users is most likely to increase. I think they are targetting their products at this market, but I do hope that they later go back and develop the same planes for FS9 users.

Another thing is that FSX is as dead as FS9 is, seeing as MS have canned flight sim altogether, so attracting new customers shouldn't be one of their reasons for making FSX-only stuff.

FSX isn't dead until devs stop creating new addons for it. The only thing that has stopped is the development of future versions. Even that isn't dead, since Microsoft is still sitting on the base code for FS. There is a chance that they may resume development of the franchise at some point.

If another FS is released in the not too distant future, I want to know how long it will be before people switch. FS9 and FSX will have been round for a very long time, and as a result people will have a complete set of payware aicraft that have been released for the supposed last two FSs. It will have to be very good in order to sway people from FS9 and FSX, possibly leaving behind $100s of payware.

Even if there never is another version of MSFS, there are still a couple good flight simulators that are still being worked on, and may eventually surpass FS9 and FSX in quality and addons, so the same problem will eventually result if Microsoft decides to sit on their FS technology indefinitely.
