Why would it be silly? If tons of people wanted to fly to there on vacation from London?

Some facts to clear the air: Virgin Atlantic flies a daily London Gatwick-Las Vegas flight with the 747-400. The flight has been as low as twice weekly, and was originally operated by the 747-200.

I don't foresee any of the following happening, given the current operating climate:
-Virgin Atlantic moving the Las Vegas flight to Heathrow.
-Virgin Atlantic operating the A380 from Gatwick instead of Heathrow.
-Therefore....

I was looking forward to flying this big bird but have yet to find a great model and panel for it.

Because it wouldn't make any money. It would probably loose money, and tons of people on vacation doesn't always mean a successful flight.

To add to what Aaron said... Vegas is VERY low yield, yes you could probably fill 500 seats to Vegas once or twice a week from London but the YIELD would be so horrific they'd fail within days.

Florida, Vegas, Hawaii and a few others are very high capacity but very low yield routes.

I think it is late this year, once Qantas get their first A380.

I suppose I'm most excited to fly it with Emirates. The A380 is likely going to see a very limited route structure, but since EK doesn't really care about profit, that thing should get around with them! :P

I think the EK A380 will be delivered quickly after the first QF one, unlike the wait between SQ and QF. Singapore Airlines still have to get a few more before the end of the year.

I think they've ordered over 50 A380s to keep their fleet age at a minimum. I wouldn't be surprised for them to be retiring or leasing some before all deliveries are complete.

They received B777-200s when, and there are plans to retire them already this year?

It's because it's an oil rich government backed airline with little more to do with their money. If they could, they'd open up an A380 route to Antarctica just for sh**s and giggles...

i cant wait to see it in British and Lufthansa colors. though i personally am a bigger fan of the 787 then the A380. i just hope that a near full 380 doesnt crash.

They don't really care about profit because they don't have to worry about it...they're expecting around $1 billion in profit for this closing financial year.

Must be nice. Just go up to you're favorite A/C manufacturer and say "yes I'd like to order 50 of everything please..."

Well, sure.
Oh, Emirates, we're making a new variant. Do you want 50 of those as well? :rolling:
