Concept Development / Previews

Post by Northwestdc9 » 23 Jun 2009, 03:33

Have something cool you're working on? Some new idea you want to show off? Something you think is so totally awesome you just have to show us?

COOL!

Well here's the place to do it, let's see what you've got for us!

I'm going to get the ball rolling with a little project I've been working on for a while and haven't had time to make a reality.

What I've wanted and been working on for years was an animated banner, something really bling and awesome. Our policy is no animated banners because they're really annoying and the size / file formats are prohibitive but I still wanted to see the result.

After years of development...

Quicktime format: http://and1.dnsalias.com:666/Temp/anima ... plete1.mov
And in lower quality flash: http://and1.dnsalias.com:666/Temp/animation.swf

I'm happy with the result though it will never get used.

Your turn!

Pretty cool. As I've mentioned before, I've started a video studio here, and participants are already recording!

Anyway, here's something I did a few weeks ago:

And yes, Adobe After Effects has replaced Photoshop as my favorite program.

EDIT: What I rudely forgot to mention was two thumbs up for that banner Nick!

Well for about a month now I've been modelling the Cessna 441 Conquest II. The 441 is the main air ambulance used by the NZ Flying Doctor Service which is based in CHC, plus my mum knows the Chief Pilot there. This is probably the main reason I haven't released many paints lately.
Anyways here's a couple of previews...

http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/7743/76419825.jpg
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/553/11959042.jpg

I'll probably post a seperate topic to post some previews in instead of clogging up this one.

I'm hoping to take this model into all areas of FS development, like making panels, XML programming (maybe even C++) and VCs but we'll have to see how things go.
I'm also quite interested in Scenery Design so I might have a go at that. BTW, if anyone wants to work on something together or wants to help out just ask. :P

P.S. Awesome stuff Nick and David, that's looking great!

As I've probably said a thousand times already, I saw that model over at the POSKY forums. I have to say, it is a true masterpiece.

There's some pretty cool work here. That model is looking very good Fraser! What program is that? Maybe you could write an article showing how models are made. Very few people understand how to make models for FS, so this might be a good time to show them.

Thanks Alex!
I made it in Gmax which is a free program that a lot of people use to model for Flight Sim.

I probably won't make an article anytime soon since modelling is quite complicated and I'm still learning myself. In the meantime, this is the best tutorial out there: http://www.flightsimonline.com/C162/

I think it's a bit early to ask what we think.

Bingo. Ask us when it looks like a hotel. Anyone can model two boxes on top of each other.

In terms of stuff I'm working on in AI Land, I'm picking at flightplans for Midway Virtual. However, I don't know how this'll work out with operations that range throughout that carrier's entire lifespan...

Wanna preview? Ok. Read like this:
