Quite amazing no one had posted about this. Anyways, I find it a little strange. The plane was well north of the Dominican Republic and it was, apparently, still climbing for its cruising altitude...unless it was to avoid some weather on its lower one. Nevertheless, the plane made it safely to Miami.

Yeah I saw that too. Supposedly people weren't wearing their seat belts and flew up and smashed their heads so hard they broke some of the ceiling tiles. Some barely made it out alive. That was bad

What aircraft was it and where did it make the landing? Somewhere in Dom-Rep?

CO128, a Boeing 767-200ER, and it made the landing in MIA. It was headed to IAH.

I bet the next time they fly they'll remember to keep their seat belts fastened. That would've prevented many injuries (most were of people hitting the ceiling or falling from their seats).

*sniff sniff* You smell that? Smells like cold, hard cash flowing into lawyers' pockets from lawsuits...

yeah I wouldn't be surprised if there were at least one lawsuit from one of the passengers on that flight.

Goddamn it, I hate it when people sue for these sorts of things.
As much as I love some heavy turbulence and a rough ride for a bit, I always take the safety of my seatbelt. After all, planes haven't got airbags.

I can't imagine how the passengers on this flight didn't have theirs on. Maybe there was something preventing their use, i.e. the element of surprise?

It would be quite interesting to see their excuse for not wearing one. Many believe that the passengers were sleeping at the time, all the more reason to be strapped to their seats.

Depends. Those lawyers better have all the tools they'll need to make sure no part of that cash is rotten (ie. lead to a losing case). Besides, how is this the airline's fault? Should it be required that flight attendants slip their hands on the passengers' seat belts to make sure they're fastened?

It mentions in the report that the seat-belt sign was on, I think people were just being ignorant...Oh well, they wont be next time!

Because they fly planes. Kinda similar to how its Boeings Fault for 9/11 because they make airplanes. Same situation.

But how can you possibly blame Boeing for 9/11 ?! Thats like saying that kitchen knife manufacturers are to blame if some phsyco decides to stab someone with one!

When was Boeing ever blamed for fault in 9/11 ?!

It's not CO's fault here unless:
a) The seatbelt sign was off, indicating the passengers needn't have their seatbelts on (and some think they must have them off)
b) Seatbelts were faulty and failed to restrain the passengers
c) Safety placards were not present in the seat pockets to outline safety aspects, or
d) Stewards failed to perform the instruction pre-flight to all passengers of the correct way to act in an emergency and putting seatbelts on

Would you take out a law suit against CO or Boeing if you hit your head or your house was hit by a hijacked aircraft?

Weren't the 9/11 lawsuits filed against UA and AA? (as if they decided to crash their own planes and risk entering bankruptcy for the pleasure of it).

a) Many sources say it was on.
b) Might be, but then again it's the passenger's responsibility to notify the FAs about that.
c) Not much they do. After all, most read through it without looking at the details. And again, if not present, ALL safety videos ask passengers to check if it is present. If not, ask a FA to bring a spare one.
d) Hm...it's a possibility, just like it is possible that there were Brasilians on board and did not understand English. But then again, CO's safety videos are in English and if you plug your headphone into the audio receiver, you can change the language (I know CO's 738, 752, and 777 had that feature because I flew in them. Don't know about the 762s).

Ok, then it's not the airlines fault, just ignorant passengers.
