Destination of the Week - Copenhagen, Denmark

Post by Victor Meurtrier » 14 Sep 2009, 02:16

The City of Copenhagen
Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and is considered the capital of Scandinavian culture. The city was first built in medieval Europe around the time of the Vikings. By the 15th century, in the High Middle Ages, the city had grown to become the capital of The Kingdom of Denmark. During this time, Copenhagen became the center of Danish culture and also became a trading point for merchants as well as a center of study and learning. In the year 2000 after the completion of the Oresund Bridge, Copenhagen is now directly connected to Malmo, Sweden. Many people live in Malmo and work in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen is a very environmentally friendly city, as is the entire country of Denmark. Windmills produce about one quarter of the energy that is consumed by the city, and windmill farms can be seen around the city. The approach into Copenhagen's airport is well known for the view of several windmill farms that can be seen during the final approach on all of the runways. Copenhagen is also the host city of the upcoming European Union Global Climate Summit, which will determine and plan the future of European and perhaps global emissions. The city is the most visited in Scandinavia by foreigners, with over 3 million tourists in the last few years.

Kastrup International Airport (CPH/EKCH)
Kastrup airport is the largest airport in Scandinavia. It has connections to many European cities, North America, Asia as well as service to many smaller cities in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. The airport is a hub for Danish Air Transport and Scandinavian Airlines, and also a focus city of Cimber Sterling, Norwegian Air Shuttle, and Skyways Express.

Nice job, Victor!
You certainly described CPH well.

It's a really busy airport, for it's location.
I like the runway layout, it's very unique.
