I planned to fly this route again as the last attempt ended up with me canx the flight, this second flight wasn't much better, the gitlfriends hairdrier overheated and tripped the electrics on the house.

Looks like you didn't walk away and find it in a holding pattern this time!

Just a tip; the first 3 shots would be better on the other side, where the sun is shining on the aircraft.
And your cruise shots a doubled up a bit, they seem to be the same angle.
What was your altitude relative the the AI? In theory, you should be 2000ft above of below him for safety.

I tried to get different angles, but another downside to fs2004 meant I couldn't do it. The AI was .4 miles away and initially was 2000ft lower, but i reduced the height difference to 1200 to get the shots.

It took nearly 2 hours to catch up with the AI................ The AI run to a real time flight plan, I was late on departure, as there was a long wait for the active, does that mean I was flying to fast? How do you decided the correct crz speeds?

Hmm, you probably were flying a bit too fast. If you took off 15 minutes after the AI, you'd be flying about M0.05 too fast if it took you 2 hours to catch it.
Were you going about M0.78?
Try flying at M0.73 or 0.74. You'll find the flight is a more realistic duration, and you use less fuel.

As for altering your altitude just for a photo opportunity... not a good look.
You shouldn't be that close to AI, and I only ever find myself that close if the AI are going the opposite direction on the same flight path.

I pc switched off so couldn't get other images, I no longer have FSX on my PC, but there is a spot view on FSX that allows you to use the arrows to move the the camera anywhere around the outside of the aircraft.

I see. That would be handy, but most decent screenshots and real-world photos have the aircraft as the centre subject, as FS9 allows.

No. You simply fly 2000 feet above or below the other traffic, i.e. AI is at FL340, you fly at FL320 or 360.

Generally I try to avoid most of these situations, just try to get some distance between us.
But it's cool to fly along with another aircraft, providing it's safe.

I was talking to a pilot the other day and he said that if you had special traffic avoidance equipment (probably TCAS, not sure) and you were above FL290 you can decrease the spacing to 1000 feet. That's in New Zealand however, so I'm not sure about other countries.

Do you use a pivot switch on your joystick/yoke to pan views, or do you use the keyboard's number pad?

RVSM airspace is typically only available where there is radar coverage. However, with the new ADS-B equipment becoming more widespread, aircraft are able to provide more accurate position reports to not only ATC, but each other as well.

Never thought of using the pivot button on my joystick, I had been using the keys.
