BA2494 EGKK/LXGB

Post by accguate » 29 Sep 2009, 02:42

hi guys!.........this set was taken on a flight from Gatwick to Gibraltar.......It was a first for me because when I was preping for this flight.....It shows that is a radar approach....first time for me.....It was realy challenging.......but I found the chart an it was good......and using the Aerosoft Gibraltar scenery.......Realy good by the way.......it shows the road that goes in the middle of the runway....they have to stop the traffic when a planes is landing or taking off......first time I see a thing like that........great trip....hope you enjoy the picss as much as I do......

I've been there before in real life. Quite a surreal experience, having a barrier come down and an aircraft come rushing past you as you wait for the lights to go green

I've done that flight before too, but it was on a BA 734

I am aware that this is a valid flight, but please remember to make a statement that it is a valid flight. Will do, thanks. It would have been nice to see more of the rock though.

Could someone please explain this arrangement of taxiway markings?

Hi Aaron I had the same question....but each markink has a code ......maybe the control tower is to far away or maybe is easier for ground to know where you are since you have to stop (because of the double line) and check your position on each marking.....as you get closer to the Rwy.....here is a chart thet explains it better

Here's a little diagram I drew, which I hope clears it up a bit:

Image

Green arrow = taxiing to gates, after landing on RWY 26L

Blue arrow = taxiing to RWY 8R, from gates

Full line = hold short point with dashed lines facing runway.

I don't think 8L and 26R are in use anymore, so the markings need to be updated.

Aaron, I believe that when both runways operated, there was cause for dual hold-short limits, one facing each way.
Aircraft leaving the main runway may have to hold short of the second runway. The same applies for aircraft taxiing the other way.
My AFCAD from a couple of years ago still has these markings too, however I think the markings facing the disused runway have since been removed.

Officially, the runway is not closed, yet it serves as a backup to the main runway. The hold short markings are not in place anymore (for 8L/26R) because the runway is virtually never used.
