This Trip Report will be more of a pictures with illustrations than a detailed report. Hope everyone enjoys! :)

We got to Dulles with plenty of time, so I roamed around Terminal B for a while. With the new addition to the terminal, its REALLY long. Sitting down for 6 hours quickly seemed appealing.

The flight was great. We traveled in Premium Economy and the crew really showed me what US airlines are missing these days. The A343 didn't have Virgin's new IFE, but I still enjoyed it, and watched Family Guy and Drillbit Taylor (thanks for the tip Alex :) ) Easily my best flight ever, until the one home.

We stayed at the LHR Marriott, and got what had to be the best hotel room I've ever stayed in: The view out my window, through the lobby, out the front window, across the street, and finally to runway 9L/27R

My dad and I toured London a bit and had a fun time. Even went on the new tour of the House of Commons while the MP's were in session. Unfortunately, the jetlag created a virtual hangover that caused me to sleep while standing up on The Tube.

The next day was Farnborough. It was a great show. Obviously, the highlight was the A380, but the Kingisher A330 and Air India 777-300ER were great too. And, as I found out the hard way, the Avro Vulcan is the loudest plane I've ever heard. Although the B-1B is close too. Anyways, here are some shots I took a the show. There's a lot, but its hard to whittle things down from just under 1000 total shots

We then headed up to Scotland for our vacation's centerpiece...the golf. Surprisingly, BA at LCY had the cheapest flights to EDI. Here's a shot of the tiny main check-in area of City Airport

Our plane, an Avro RJ100, registered G-BZAZ
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oot120.jpg

The flight was nice, the crew even served breakfast which included potatoes, bacon, sausage, bread, a roasted tomato, and orange juice

My dad and I then drove through Edinburgh, Glasgow and then to the Isle of Arran, where we played golf for four days. We then headed back to the Edinburgh area, where we played some more golf for three days. Yes...I was sick of golf by the end of this trip. :P

A couple of shots from my trip. Me golfing, and me standing on the Swilcan Bridge at St. Andrews, the home of golf.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... alf138.jpg

We then headed back to LHR on BA1435, an A319 registered G-EUPL. Sorry, couldn't get a pic of my jet, but I did catch Singapore, A380 parked at a remote stand. I love its tail dwarfs all the other jumbos'. I also enjoyed T5. Great terminal with open views and sleek modern architecture. I also included a pic of six BA 744s lined up in a row. Quite a site! 8)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... alf245.jpg

After one last day of touring London, we headed home. Luckily, we were in for one last surprise...

We got to LHR with time to spare, so my dad an I walked around T3. Unfortunately, we walked into a "non-sterile" area of the airport (why is an area with planes and gates non-sterile?) and had to go through security again. Luckily, the line wasn't more than 10 minutes long. After some time, we boarded VS55 back to IAD, on Bubbles, an A340-600 registered G-VFIZ.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oad024.jpg

We sat in our seats, 20H&K, in the Premium Economy section.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oad025.jpg

After five minutes, a couple came up who had IDENTICAL boarding passes for the same seats. After some decision making, an FA came to our seats with our boarding passes, which had 20H&K crossed out to show 12G&K. That's right, she moved us to UPPER CLASS! woohoo!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oad031.jpg

I gotta say, I had a lot of fun on this trip, but this was definitely the highlight and icing on the cake. What a way to end it. The FAs were more than helpful and the seat itself was incredible. Reclining seat, layflat bed, ottoman, you get the picture. The plane had the IFE, so I watched Family Guy, Flight of the Conchord's, 21, and Juno. I had fun texting and calling my dad on the system, even though he sat next to me, and we played Battleship and Trivia against eachother. For food, I enjoyed a Heineken, salmon ceviche, garlic bread, a braised cut of beef (some of the softest and tastiest meat I've had), a cheese platter and some orange ice cream
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oad061.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oad064.jpg

Enjoying the lay flat bed. Incredibly, it fit me with room to spare, and I'm 6'1"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oad066.jpg

A nice shot I took as we flew over Canada
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/ ... oad069.jpg

Overall, the Upper Class treatment made for an incredible experience. My only complaint is that the angling of the seats makes looking out the window awkward and uncomfortable. My neck was sore by the end of the trip.

Edited since I forgot my Farnborough pics.

Great Report Josh!!
I've been on the Business (basically First) Class on Air New Zealand which is the same as the VS Upper Class and I Loved it! It's really nice to have a flat bed!

Hey! Flight of the Conchords!!!! They're great! They're on the TV all the time in NZ, kinda makes sense since they are Kiwi guys. :P

I only wish I could get upgraded sometime! I too saw the A380 at LHR when I was there, and I also got some pictures of it taking off.

That's it...I'm definitely adding VS as one of the airlines to fly in  . Nice report. Love the pictures.

Very nice, loving the classic Big Ben photo that everyone takes!

I'm with Dennis, someday I'll have to non-rev on VS and give them a shot.

(Sorry I am very late in replying; this is the first time I've had a chance to reply this week)

Great report Josh and impressive shots! I'm glad you liked VS although I'm so jealous you got upgraded to Upper class. You're also very lucky to see the only flying Vulcan still in existence. There was an exhibition at the Sunderland airshow about its restoration and it was very interesting to see the transformation from an old relic to air worthy condition. There are many Vulcans parked at airfields near me, although none are in air worthy condition.

Was your A346 fitted with the latest IFE? I suppose it may have been hard for you to tell, flying a different class on both legs.

Now there's three of us who have seen the A380 at LHR. :D I wonder if it was the same one?

Yup, it had the newest IFE. The old IFE on the A343 was pretty unimpressive, but I'll cut them a break since it was from the early days of personal IFE. The new one was great and was even updated recently, having the latest Foo Fighters, M.I.A. and others' albums.
