Flying over Antartcia

Post by Ev13 » 11 Sep 2009, 23:30

A friend just email me this and thought I'd share!

http://www.theage.com.au/travel/travel-news/qantas-a380-to-fly-over-antarctica-for-new-years-eve-20090911-fkho.html

Seems cool! To fly over Antarctica in an A380! Something I would definitely like to do when I'm older!

I believe Qantas or New Zealand does these charters on a regular basis? This would be the first A380 though.

I knew Qantas did these flights but I thought on special occasions. Now with an A380 seems cool!

Air New Zealand don't operate Antarctic flights anymore. I'm not quite sure when they stopped but I think it might've been after the Erebus crash.

The USAF Operation Deep Freeze aircraft fly people (both personel and 'tourists') down there in the summer. That's all from NZ.

Very cool! If only we could be so lucky as to be one of the 450 folks on board... awesome!
