To say that they cost $30 million brand new, that's a steal! Now if I only I had an extra million or so kicking around I would go for that...

$5 million?!?! That's amazing! Especially for a plane with thrust vectoring, and can therefore pull off a cobra maneuver. I think that one is every adrenaline junkie's dream.

Wasn't something like this on the news some time ago? But it wasn't advertising, it was that the Russian Air Force was selling planes to common (well, rich) buyers. Sukhoi jets were among them...

That is AWESOME! Wish I could afford it...or even fly it.

My sister worked for a charter company a few years back up here, a company called Security Aviation. The owners (though they no longer own the company now) bought up something like five to eight Aero L-39 Albatros jets (Czech Air Force jets). Well, apparently some of the guys who worked for the company were kind doing strange things, so the FBI started investigating them. Later the FBI raids the hangar at the airport, and some of the peoples houses...They had stashes of weapons, including rocket launchers for the jets. They also checked out the jets, which turns out they still had the wiring for weapons systems.

Anyway, before this happened, by sister actually got to go on a flight in one. She said it was awesome, doing rolls and different maneuvers.

You can check out the "Security Aviation Saga" stories from the Anchorage Daily News here: http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/security_aviation/

Is it really legal for civilians to fly these birds? (even w/o weapons)
The USAF would prob. shot me down!

Well you can bet your ....s that every time you file a flight plan in one of those you won't have only flight following from ATC center by the entire NORAD!! :rolling:
Not to mention the face of the controllers every time you switch over frequencies and you mention aircraft type and altitude. They'll think you're nuts!!

It would be fun to fly that thing to a quiet airport and then five minutes later have your friend turn up in the other Su-27. See how the ATC react.

I think a lot of times most of these aircraft are Restricted, too, aren't they? I know someone owns an old Antonov An-2 out here at Merill Field (PAMR), and I talked to a teacher of mine from high school who teaches an aviation tech program at the University Aviation program building there. She told me that since the FAA will not certify it, that it has a Restricted usage license or rating or whatever, and so it really never moves...It can only fly like 300 miles from it's home airport, can't carry passengers for profit, etc.
