On Friday I did my first solo flight at my local aero club, Omaka.

I did one full circuit without going around or making any mistakes, it was textbook!

After just 7.5 flight hours, I think I am doing really well.

Congrads! I want to get my license but since I am leaving I don't see a point. And I don't even have the money for it. :) Congrads again!

Way to go! I did mine in 7.5 as well. Great piloting!

Thanks guys!
Yeah, 7 to 8 hours is quite early, considering my instructor said I was ready at 6.9 hours, but my aircraft's radio stopped working just prior to him getting out.
So after a broken radio and two times where the cloud minimums forced me to land, I finally got the solo 0.6hr later than first though. Such a shame.
Most pilots seem to go solo at 10-12 hours, and one guy at the club is at 16 hours and not solo!

Decker, what stage in your PPL training are you at now? You went solo in November right?

Congratz :) :) :)

Such an awesome feeling eh????

7.5 is too little...but seems things are different from where I learnt to fly.

In South Africa the law says that no student pilot is to go solo before attaining his/her first 10hrs under dual instruction!

I went solo at 11.3 and that was a record. In South Africa people usually go solo within the teens, with quite a bunch going after their 25th hour.

Good luck in your career :D

I soloed in mid August '09. I'm cramming in oral exam studying and practice checkrides and I'll have the big ride in a couple of weeks.

Thanks!
And yeah, it does seem early, but at least I can progress instead of doing endless circuits with my instructor.

Decker, good luck with the checkride!
How did you go with the other exams along the way?

Congrats Sam!! I know I had the hugest smile on my face when I was on downwind and looked over to the right at the airport and didn't have to look around my instructor (our field has a right pattern).

Good luck with the rest of your work, it's a ton of fun.

Strange, I had 7 circuit lessons (only 4 before I was ready to solo, but weather held me up).
Most of my lessons were 0.4-0.7 in length though.

Thanks a lot, Josh!
The left-turn tendency is a pain when you're up solo, especially on takeoff and climb-out.

Wow that's pretty short for lesson length! Then again I live in the Washington DC area so I have to fly out about 15 mins just to get to the practice area

I found the lack of weight the most difficult to get used to. Landing took a bit of getting used to.
