Inland Northwest Skyfest 2010

Post by seahawks7757 » 27 Jul 2010, 08:20

This was quite the weekend. Started at 10 AM friday with work and spotting at BFI. Me and a few buddies then met at 4AM drove over for day 1 of the airshow over at Fairchild. Since I got off work at 1AM I just met them since we were meeting near the airport and my house is so far away. After spending the day there and getting a nice burn we drove back that night so I was on no sleep. Cool part about driving though is we hit a few other airports like MWH(Missed ZA003 by 2 minutes ) and EPH which has a DC-3 based there. Expect some shots of those to later. I was heading back for day 2 via air this time and had to be up at 6AM for my 8AM flight to GEG. Of course I was not tired at first when I got home but then finally crashed at 2AM and got 4 hours of sleep after being awake for the last 40. I slept on the flight over and day 2 is where the fun was. With no car I had to find my way to the show and GEG has a crappy transit system to day the least. I ended up walking 5 miles to the closest bus stop that I could find with out having to go downtown. Yeah quite the hike in 90*+ heat with a heavy camera bag and lawn chair. But I made it intime for the show. Only bad part anout Fairchild is that everything is backlit til about 1300 or so but that is when all the good fighter jets start and what not. But now I present to you the USAF Thunderbirds. Will have more shots later but going to go catch a few zzz's before PDX tomorrow and then next weekend's ARCTIC THUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a couple of close calls! Only thing killing these shots for me though is the noise

I was just focusing on ship 5 here and got lucky I snapped the shot with the main pack in the bg. One of those dumb luck shots I never noticed til I was looking through my shots at the end of the day.

And these buggers trying to sneak up on the crowd

Great again! You're really improving.

The only criticism I have is with shots 2 & 3 - I would have tracked the front plane and have that one in focus, with the plane at the back blurred. Still, they are good photos.

The reason that happened was the airboss stand was on that birds side so it made it hard to keep track and keep the camera focused on him because it would start focusing on the stand which is almost show center. I tryed it from that side saturday and got nothing.
