Re: Assorted Crap
I'm making $7.15 an hour at my current job (Alaska's minimum wage), which is like, what, £3.66 or something? It's crap for me, I went from making about $1,400 a month in the military (more than I made in any other job) to maybe $800 a month. With this TSA job, it's like $14.50 or so, plus a 24% cost of living expense, so it's not too shabby. It's just to hold me off until I can apply with the police department here, where if I get in, I'll be making $27.02 an hour...Which would be real nice.

Thanks to Nick Anderson for the awesome banner!

Well, yes and no. You have to remember that the gap between the middle/poorer classes and the upper middle class/rich is growing. People who make minimum wage are not very well off, no. However, many salaried jobs (especially in IT, medicine, law, etc.) can get well over $100k/year. There are plenty of rich Americans, but to answer your question no, those close to minimum wage are not very well off.capewellavc wrote:My minimum wage is £4.85/hour and I don't get out of bed for less than £6.00/hour ($12/hour) I thought the USA was richer!
This is a topic for another day, but if your minimum wage is around $9.70, doesn't that discourage industry (and other things) from doing business in the UK?

Yes, thats why we have very little primary and almost no secondary work here. It's all tertiary, which is required for a population of 65 million people...

Re: Assorted Crap
Perhaps your higher minimum wage is due to the higher European taxes as well.

Heck, Y'all ought to come to Tennessee. No state income tax. But, 9.25 % sales tax, and oh that little gas tax holiday the politicians are discussing, that won't affect us, if they do that, we won't get a break, it's state law.
