Emergency Backup
Several months ago, I got what I believe was a computer virus. I had to to a complete system restore and lost everything. I have started worrying to death that this could happen again. If it were to happen, it could take hours if not days to download everything I use. I'm thinking about making a copy of my Aircraft folder and burning it to a disc. It keeps saying in error something about some of these may be lost. Any Suggestions?
thanks
thanks

Re: Emergency Backup
Do you have the exact error message? That'll help us a lot.

Re: Emergency Backup
The fle 'Thumbs' has extra information attachecd to it that might be lost if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be afected. Do you want to copy the file anyway?
I don't want to take any chances. Thanks

Re: Emergency Backup
Not sure how much this will help, but I know that XP has a back up system in there somewhere. Just Google it.

Re: Emergency Backup
Continue anyway, thumbs.db is a pointless file that is used by some deep down system process.
It's useless and I delete them if I happen to care at the moment.

Re: Emergency Backup
It's not a virus or anything harmful to your computer. Thumbs.db is a database of image file thumbnails that is created if a folder has images in it. It is how the shell (explorer) displays image file thumbnails and previews. Copying thumbs.db to another computer is worthless as it is only used on the machine that created it. If you move the file to another folder, it's useless without the images that go with it.bigrobmjca wrote:The fle 'Thumbs' has extra information attachecd to it that might be lost if you continue copying. Is that what it does? Never knew that! Good to know.NG Driver wrote:It's not a virus or anything harmful to your computer. Re: Emergency Backup
Most of it is AI traffic and aircraft downloads. Will they be affected in the transfer? Will they be different in the Flight Sim after I do the backup on another disc if I'm running normal with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 disc 4?

Re: Emergency Backup
It is very easy to transfer AI and aircraft over to different FSs. Simply copy and past the aircraft folder, gauges, sounds etc. The AI will need the flight plans also.

Re: Emergency Backup
My custom AI is backed up on an external drive. Whenever I need to reinstall FS, all I have to do is recopy the folders back into FS9/Aircraft. Then I still need to install the flight plans, but at least the aircraft are all there.

Re: Emergency Backup
Actually it's a lot of aircraft that I fly too. If I say continue anwyay, will everything in the sim, still be the way it was and function the way it did before I did the backup when I put FS 9 Disc 4 back in to continue flying after the transfer?bigrobmjca wrote:Most of it is AI traffic and aircraft downloads.
