London Heathrow's long-awaited new Terminal 5 opened today, albeit with some technical problems that adversely affected British Airways' operations, the sole occupant of the new facility. The first arrival at Terminal 5 was flown by Lynn Barton, British Airways' first female pilot. The first departure was, well, delayed. This coming weekend, Continental, Delta, and Northwest will also begin flying to Heathrow. All the new entrants and gate shifts at Heathrow means that SimAirline.net's current terminal map of the airport is no longer up to date. It will be updated in the future although it's dependent on new imagery that shows the terminal in use. In the meantime, here's a helpful guide that summarizes all the gate changes. British Airways also has its own Terminal 5 website with more information about how its Heathrow operations are now divided between terminals.
