All Nippon Airways yesterday announced an order for five 767-300ERs and five 777-200ERs. The airline currently flies several of the type already, and is likely part of a discounted order following the continued 787 delays.

ANA to Merge Airlines
All Nippon Airways announced last week that it would restructure its airlines from the current seven into two. Next year, Air Japan, All Nippon Airways, and JP Express would merge into a single entity, while regional airlines Air Central, Air Next, and Air Nippon Network would merge. In 2011, the larger ANA would then merge with Air Nippon. Over the years, ANA has broadened into several specialized airlines, but is now seeking to generate cost efficiencies through consolidating these operations.

ANA Tops Off 787 Order
All Nippon Airways has ordered an additional five 787s, taking its firm order total to 55. Following Qantas' cancellation of fifteen 787s last week, this makes ANA the largest 787 customer. In the process, ANA reduced its interim lift order with Boeing for 767-300ERs from nine to four.

ANA Leadership Transition
All Nippon Airways recently announced that Shinichiro Ito would take over as President and CEO on April 1 from Mineo Yamamoto. Ito, currently Senior Executive VP-Marketing & Sales, Customer Service Promotion, Products & Services Strategy, has been with ANA since 1974 in multiple areas, including Engineering and Maintenance, Airport Administration, Personnel, and Corporate Planning.
Yamamoto will become vice-chairman of the ANA Group after leading ANA through "four years of sustained growth and profitable operations despite the relentless rise in the price of oil for almost the entire term." Under his leadership, ANA "successfully restructured its ancillary businesses...[and underwent] a period of international expansion in terms of network and passengers as well as the establishment of ANA Cargo." In this time, ANA was also named 'Airline of the Year' by Air Transport World.
