Continental Sells Last of Copa Stake
After ten years and a few days, Copa Airlines is once again an independently owned airline. Continental Airlines sold the last of its stake in Copa earlier this month. Continental had owned as much as 51% of Copa, but had been steadily reducing its ownership stake over the last two and a half years, both as part of Copa's public offering and to raise cash for its own operations. The ownership stake led to a revitalization of the Copa brand and transformed the airline into one of the leaders in Latin American aviation. The two formed a comprehensive marketing alliance, which included Copa rebranding itself after Continental, codesharing with Continental, adopting the OnePass frequent flier program, and eventually joining the SkyTeam Alliance.

Aero República Added to Copa Virtual
Copa Virtual has expanded to include the operations of Aero República, Colombia’s second largest airline. This addition adds six new destinations to SimAirline.net’s operations, all within Colombia. Aero República operates a fleet of E-190s and MD-80s within Colombia and to Panama, with its complete network accessible through the SkyTeam Timetable. Unfortunately, no suitable E-190 to offer on the Copa Virtual website is available at this time, but we are continually searching for one that meets our standards.Copa Airlines began codesharing with Aero República in 2005 and bought them later that year. As a result of the purchase, Aero República changed its brand to match Copa’s, adopted the OnePass frequent-flier plan, began a fleet renewal program, and restructured its network to become a feeder for Copa. These changes were what led us to the decision to include Aero República in Copa Virtual’s operations.
