South African CEO Placed on Leave
South African Airways placed CEO Khaya Ngqula on leave earlier this week after investigating allegations of conflict of interest. A recent catering contract was awarded to a consortium co-owned by an associate of Ngqula's wife, Mbali Gasa. In addition, months after presenting cost-cutting measures to the board of directors, the airline signed a $3 million sponsorship deal with Argentinian golfer Angel Cabrera, a competitor in the African Open, organized by Gasa. The airline is reportedly trying to terminate Ngqula's contract and select a temporary replacement.
